Kopplin Co. Releases Free Open-Source Skill That Upgrades Claude Code’s Website Design Output

United States, 1st May 2026 – Claude Web Design Skill, a free MIT-licensed skill that upgrades Claude Code’s website design output through opinionated typography, spacing, and color defaults, is now available at https://www.claudewebdesignskill.com/. Built by Kopplin Co., the skill installs in under a minute and requires no configuration.

The skill addresses a known weakness in AI-generated websites: weak design defaults. In benchmarks run by the developer, average design quality scores rose from 5.4 to 8.2 out of 10 after the skill was installed, measured against a 10-point professional review covering hierarchy, accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and performance.

“Most AI-generated websites look generic because they lack strong design defaults,” said Aaron Kopplin, founder of Kopplin Co. “We built this to give Claude a clear sense of visual hierarchy, spacing, and restraint, so the output feels intentional, not accidental.”

Claude Web Design Skill ships as a single SKILL.md file that Claude Code loads automatically when relevant prompts are detected. Once installed, prompts such as “design a hero section” or “review this landing page” trigger an embedded design framework covering typography, spacing, color, and component consistency. The framework introduces a two-typeface standard for readability, a structured 8-point spacing grid for visual rhythm, a simplified color token system to replace ad-hoc styling, and consistency rules across buttons, cards, forms, and navigation. The skill also includes a 10-point self-review system that Claude can run on its own output to check hierarchy, accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and performance before handing work back to the user.

The tool is aimed at developers, founders, and indie builders who want production-quality design output from Claude Code without hiring a designer or learning design systems from scratch. It works with Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui by default, and remains framework-agnostic for other stacks. Importantly, the skill does not modify, scan, or transmit user project files. It runs entirely as a local enhancement inside Claude Code, with no telemetry, paid tier, or upsell.

Installation takes a single npm command. Users run the install, restart Claude Code, and begin prompting normally. The skill activates automatically when design-related prompts are detected, embedding best-practice design decisions into the output without requiring additional instructions. Full installation steps and the complete source are available at https://www.claudewebdesignskill.com/  and on GitHub, where the SKILL.md file is published under the MIT license for anyone to read, fork, or modify.

The release lands as AI continues to reshape how websites get built, with founders and small teams increasingly leaning on tools like Claude Code for production work. Claude Web Design Skill is positioned as a quiet quality upgrade rather than a replacement for designers: opinionated defaults that lift the floor of AI-generated design, so even first-time users can ship sites that meet modern standards.

Kopplin Co. is a consulting and software studio founded by Aaron Kopplin, building tools and websites for clients across web development, marketing, and CRM. Claude Web Design Skill is the company’s first publicly released open-source developer tool.
