Successful Conclusion of the Cybersecurity Summit for Energy Sector 2025

Malaysia, 22nd Nov 2025 – The IPv6 Forum Malaysia successfully hosted the Cybersecurity Summit for Energy Sector 2025 at Hotel Maya, Kuala Lumpur. The event brought together distinguished experts and participants from Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Singapore, fostering regional collaboration on cybersecurity in the energy sector.

With the endorsement and support of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and the Cyber Civilization Research Center (CCRC) at Keio University, Japan, the summit served as a platform for expert dialogue and the development of robust cybersecurity frameworks for energy systems in ASEAN and beyond.

The summit commenced with welcome addresses from:

• Tuan Haji Che Juhan Che Mat, Chief Technical Monitoring Officer, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) (on behalf of MCMC Chairman, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din).
• Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass, Chairman, APAC IPv6 Council
• Mr. Tsutomu Yamada, Director, Advanced Energy Systems and Structure Division, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Department, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan

The summit also featured a series of expert keynotes by:

• Mr. Naoto Okura, Director General for Research and Policy Design, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)
• Mr. Buddy Harianto, Deputy Director, Strategic Planning and Communication, Energy Commission of Malaysia
• Prof. Dr. Masaki Umejima, Convener of the Development Plan, IEC System Committee Smart Energy, Japan
• Mr. Akinori Kahata, Deputy Director, Electricity Industry and Market Office, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan
• Mr. Hiroshige Muraoka, President, Nomura Research Institute of Singapore
• Dr. Chalee Vorakulpipat, Director of the Communication and Networks Research Group, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Thailand
• Dr. Ary Setijadi Prihatmanto, Head of the Center for Excellence in Defense Security Science and Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia

The summit later proceeded with focused Working Group sessions for Cybersecurity Policy and Cybersecurity Research for Energy Sector, chaired by:

• Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Saraswathy Shamini Gunasekaran, Energy Informatics Expert, Taylor’s University
• Prof. Dr. Selvakumar Manickam, Director, Cybersecurity Research Centre (CYRES), Universiti Sains Malaysia

The event concluded with presentations from the two Working Groups, and closing speeches by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass and Prof. Dr. Masaki Umejima. The draft output documents from the two Working Groups will be submitted to the Energy Commission of Malaysia for further discussion and engagement.
