Akili Alumni Marathon 2026 Announced in Dar es Salaam Tanzania
Akili Education announces the Akili Alumni Marathon 2026, aiming to raise USD 1.2 million to sponsor 100 Tanzanian students for tech-focused scholarships.
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 17th Feb 2026 – Today we officially launch a major initiative aimed at transforming the lives of Tanzanian youth: the Akili Alumni Marathon 2026. This is not just an ordinary marathon. It is a national movement that brings together Tanzanians who have studied abroad, institutions, companies, development partners, and citizens under one shared goal: to raise USD 1.2 million to sponsor 100 students to study high-demand, future-focused programs, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Blockchain Technology.

Every USD 12,000 we raise represents the transformation of one student’s life. It is one dream saved, one family uplifted, and one step toward building the future of Tanzania. This is not simply a donation; it is a direct investment in the intelligence, skills, and potential of the next generation. It is a commitment to ensure that talent is not wasted because of financial barriers.
The world is changing at a very fast pace. The jobs of tomorrow will not depend only on certificates, but on technological skills, creativity, and the ability to solve complex problems. Our banks need cyber security professionals to protect financial systems from digital threats. Government institutions need AI experts to improve revenue collection, urban planning, healthcare systems, and public service delivery.
The financial sector is preparing for a revolution driven by blockchain and digital transaction systems. Yet the hard truth remains: Tanzania has many talented young people, but thousands of them cannot afford to study these critical, future-facing courses.
That is why we have chosen action over complaint. Instead of talking about the problem, we are running toward the solution. The Akili Alumni Marathon is a platform designed to unite the strength of alumni, corporations, institutions, universities, embassies, and ordinary citizens to build a new generation of technology professionals who will drive Tanzania’s future economy.
This marathon is unique because it is centered around Tanzanian alumni who have studied abroad. These are individuals who have experienced global education systems, international work cultures, and advanced technology environments. Now, they are coming together to give back to the country that shaped them. It is a movement built on gratitude, responsibility, and the belief that success is more meaningful when it opens doors for others.

The marathon will take place on 6 April 2026, Easter Monday, in Dar es Salaam. On that day, thousands of alumni, leaders, companies, students, and citizens are expected to run together under the theme: “Run the Future: 100 Scholarships for Tech Leaders.”
In addition to the race itself, the event will feature a Global Universities and Scholarships Expo, where more than 50 to 100 universities from around the world are expected to participate. These institutions will bring scholarship offers, admissions opportunities, and guidance for Tanzanian students and parents seeking international education pathways. This component is designed to expand access to global opportunities and reduce the pressure on local university capacity by opening new doors for Tanzanian learners.
The marathon also carries an international ambition. Organizers are preparing a Guinness World Records attempt by inviting participants from as many nationalities as possible, with the goal of creating one of the most internationally represented marathon events ever held. This effort is intended to place Tanzania on the global map, attract international media attention, and position the country as a hub for education, innovation, and youth opportunity.
We are proud to announce that the Guest of Honour for this historic event will be Hon. Prof. Adolf Mkenda, Minister for Education, Science and Technology. His presence reflects the national importance of this initiative and demonstrates Tanzania’s commitment to investing in future-ready education and digital skills.

Through this platform, we invite:
- Tanzanian alumni to register, run, and contribute to the scholarship fund.
- Companies sponsor students and support the event as part of their corporate social responsibility.
- Universities from around the world bring scholarships and opportunities for Tanzanian youth.
- Embassies and development partners to participate and mobilize their communities.
- And all Tanzanians support the cause in any way they can.
Because in the end, this is not just about a race. It is about the future of our nation. Ten years from now, Tanzania will have professionals in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Blockchain working in our banks, our companies, our startups, and our government institutions. They will be building secure financial systems, intelligent infrastructure, digital public services, and globally competitive businesses.
And when that day comes, we will proudly say that it all started with one run, one contribution, and one belief: that when one student is educated, an entire nation rises.
