New Children’s Book “Riding with Mama” Celebrates African Village Life, Love, and the Warmth of a Mother’s Embrace

“This book is part of a series where Koko is the main character, allowing readers to experience life through her eyes,” says Ntanda. “This past summer, I spent hours in my local libraries combing through stacks of children’s books. I read hundreds of stories, some made me laugh, others made me cry. But none reflected the tender moments between mothers and their young children from this perspective, and that inspired me to write this story.”
Ntanda continues, “The relationship you have with your mother sets the tone for every other relationship in your life. It’s my hope that every child gets to experience the maternal bond. I wanted to express that connection through the eyes of an African child.”

About the Author
Sanyu Ntanda is a Ugandan-American children’s book author based in Houston, Texas. She draws inspiration from her African heritage to create stories that celebrate family, connection, and cultural identity. Riding with Mama is her third publication, following Jama and the Search for Courage and Jama and Family Coloring and Activity Book.
