From Eastern Wisdom to Global Solutions: SAINT BELLA CEO Danny Xiang Calls for Standardized Global Postpartum Care at the United Nations
The 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) convened in New York from March 10 to 21, bringing together thousands of diplomats, business leaders, and civil society representatives. The event marked the world’s largest annual conference dedicated to advancing gender equality and addressing critical issues impacting women and girls globally.
Danny Xiang, a leading Chinese entrepreneur, gave a powerful speech advocating for Asia’s proven postpartum care practices to be woven into global healthcare systems, emphasizing the need for a culturally adaptive yet universally applicable postpartum care standard. His proposal resonated strongly with the international community, offering a scalable solution to improve maternal and infant health worldwide.
During an on-site media interview, when reporter asked how SAINT BELLA Group, under his leadership, strategically aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Xiang stated, “At SAINT BELLA, we regard maternal and infant health as a fundamental human right, not a privilege. By providing new mothers with specialized care for physical and mental recovery, we directly advance Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3)—Good Health and Well-being. Simultaneously, we advocate for policy frameworks that support working mothers and drive SDG 5—Gender Equality by cultivating female healthcare professionals. “
Xiang also shared, “through our digital postpartum care platform, we are leveraging AI technology to transcend geographical limitations in care resources. We aim to translate cutting-edge research into accessible, real-time support systems for users, ensuring women in underserved regions receive the same quality of care as those in developed areas. This commitment supports SDG 9—Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.”
Citing data, He pointed out that more than 70% of new mothers globally face postpartum health challenges, yet policy coverage, economic support, and public awareness remain insufficient. “Proper postpartum care should be an essential part of global healthcare systems,” Xiang stated. “This is not just about safeguarding maternal and infant health; it is about strengthening family well-being and enhancing overall socioeconomic efficiency.”
Having spent nearly a decade advocating for gender equality and maternal health, Xiang emphasized the urgent need for a globally standardized postpartum care support system built on three pillars: physical recovery, psychological support, and economic policy support.
Xiang encouraged governments to implement stronger maternal support policies, integrate postpartum care into national healthcare coverage, and establish dedicated financial subsidies. He also called on corporations to foster family-friendly workplaces that empower new mothers to balance career growth with personal well-being. Furthermore, he emphasized the role of medical institutions in adopting and refining globally validated postpartum care practices to provide more comprehensive support for mothers.
Rooted in centuries of wisdom, the Eastern tradition of “Zuo Yue Zi” (postpartum confinement) embodies a holistic approach to maternal recovery, blending structured postpartum management, scientifically balanced nutrition, and intergenerational emotional support. This practice complements modern medical advancements, reinforcing maternal health outcomes. Under Xiang’s leadership, SAINT BELLA Group has pioneered high-quality postpartum care services catering to women from diverse backgrounds.
Based on publicly available information, as of 30 June 2024, SAINT BELLA Group was operating 72 postpartum care centers across 25 cities worldwide. Beyond its rapid expansion in China, the company has launched its global footprint in the United States and Singapore, with plans to continue expanding into new markets. The company offers a comprehensive ecosystem spanning maternal and infant care services, home care services and related food products, striving to establish a well-rounded family care system in the future, from pregnancy and postpartum recovery to early childhood development and elderly care.
From Asia to the world, Danny Xiang is not just redefining maternal healthcare—he is advocating for a future where every mother, regardless of her circumstances, receives the care she deserves. As the United Nations continue its global conversations on gender equality, his mission stands as a compelling example of how business, innovation, and policy can come together to create lasting impact.
