United States, 30th Jun 2026 — Author and former United Nations official Saber Azam announces the release of Hell’s Mouth: A Journey to the Heart of West African Jungles, a compelling work of historical fiction inspired by humanitarian operations, political turmoil, and the human cost of war in West Africa.
Set during the First Liberian Civil War, Hell’s Mouth follows Abraham Noor, an ethics-bound “humanitarian James Bond,” and Selina, his steadfast partner, as they enter the dense and dangerous borderlands between Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire. Their mission is clear: protect displaced civilians, coordinate relief, and help refugees survive. Yet in a region shaped by its history, armed factions, political manipulation, fear, and instability, every decision becomes a test of conscience.
Through vivid storytelling and historical realism, Saber Azam explores the harsh realities of humanitarian work in conflict zones. The novel brings readers into the moral complexity faced by aid workers: who receives help first, how dignity can be protected when institutions collapse, and what courage looks like when danger becomes part of daily life.
Hell’s Mouth is both a work of historical fiction and a human rights narrative. It examines the suffering of civilians during the Liberian conflict while honoring the humanitarian workers who ventured into dangerous environments to serve those who had nowhere else to turn.
“In the thick jungles along the Liberia–Côte d’Ivoire border, war does not announce itself with banners—it arrives in whispers, gunfire, and the sudden disappearance of order,” the book’s description states.
The novel is especially relevant for readers interested in African historical fiction, political fiction, humanitarian stories, refugee crises, human rights, international conflict, and war literature. With its combination of political history, field realism, and character-driven storytelling, Hell’s Mouth offers readers a deeply human perspective on one of West Africa’s most turbulent chapters.
At the center of the novel is Abraham Noor, a principled humanitarian figure who operates not with weapons, but with conviction, courage, and moral clarity. Through Abraham and Selina, Azam presents a different kind of heroism—one rooted not in conquest, but in service, dignity, and the defense of vulnerable people.
Saber Azam’s professional background gives the novel a distinctive authenticity. Hell’s Mouth: A Journey to the Heart of West African Jungles is now available through major online book retailers.
