Service One Transportation Expands Its Embrace of Truck Driver Technology for Safety and Efficiency

Wisconsin trucking company, which has earned multiple safety awards, continues to lean into technology that helps drivers operate safely while optimizing routes

Plymouth, WI, United States, 25th Mar 2026 —Service One Transportation today shared that it is expanding its embrace of technologies that enable its drivers to operate safely and efficiently. Through increased facilitation of GPS navigation, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and dashcams, the company fosters a “safety first” environment, while also helping drivers optimize routes and reduce fuel costs.

According to Mike Myszewski, Vice President of Service One Transportation, “Early on, the drivers were wary of having even the front-facing cameras in their trucks. But now, based on numerous times when the camera provided the evidence that the driver was not at fault in a traffic incident, they are big believers in having them in their trucks. On the technology side, it’s been more of a safety tool. Having the telematics in the truck allows us the ability to coach the drivers and correct driving behaviors that could lead to accidents, as well as provide positive feedback to drivers exhibiting safe driving habits.”

Service One is facilitating the use of a variety of technologies and encouraging its over-the-road (OTR) drivers to utilize them to maximum advantage. The company’s OTR drivers haul freight over long distances, typically across multiple states and regions. These circumstances foster an environment where drivers benefit from staying tech-savvy and leveraging technology tools to improve efficiency.

For example, ELDs automatically record the driver’s hours of service (HOS) by tracking his or her driving time, the truck’s engine hours, the truck’s movement, miles driven, and locations. With this data, the ELD can support GPS-based route optimization.

Service One is approaching the expanded use of technology as a mind shift as much as a technology adoption issue. ELDs are mandated by government regulation for many of Service One’s trucks. The company wants its drivers to see the technology as a tool, rather than a device to be ignored because it’s bolted to the vehicle whether they like it or not.

“It’s natural to balk at a new gadget that seems like yet another drain on the driver’s time,” Myszewski explained. “However, as our drivers see the financial benefits of increased route efficiency and fuel consumption, they start to get excited about the toolset.”

The company allows drivers flexibility on routing. At the same time, Service One’s management team is a proponent of getting drivers a good trucker GPS that gives them trucker-approved routes to take when running loads for Service One. “We were an early adopter when it came to ELDs,” Myszewski added. “We started using them, and early on, came to find a company that was better than some of the bigger players in the market.”

Service One has used Samsara ELD and dash cams for the last eight years. Drivers have found that the products are effective at route optimization and safety monitoring. They also help drivers manage the sometimes challenging requirements of compliance and HOS rules while on the road.
